I also note the odd use of Et for 'and' or '&' - where does this come from? Anyone know? |
Could be bad coding. A keystroke or two that their software doesn't recognize? |
No, it's not a coding error. The et ligature predates the ampersand. My guess would be the use is emblematic-- to 'educate' modernity as to its origins and assert the 'lost' knowledge of Arab culture. Of which there's some validity, but largely to motivate, in my opinion. |

So, we don't know if their keyboard doesn't have the ampersand or they are just being silly and pompous.
If they wanted to be truly proper they would write that little word "and" where it belongs.

I wasn't clear (or my explanation was deferred), but the choice was made through a font. Unicode is an international value (a number) assigned to alphanumeric expressions (letters and numbers). If you copy and paste the et ligature to a field that doesn't recognize the font, say, a search window or email field, its unicode remains and is an ampersand.
Or, in other words, to produce an et ligature, one presses the & key using a font that has augmented the &'s unicode value.
Its use was a choice and would agree the choice was cosmetic and can cite other non-standard choices and inadequacies relating to content and form. After I had read on Dave's that the program's few teachers commanded atypically high salaries, I sent off an edit and was threatened for it. Something along the lines of reporting to security any further contact. I think I still have the emails. I was spending a marvelous two weeks in Qassim before leaving the country and so amused myself.
In my first post to this thread, what I cited was verbatim. The third section of Programs and Services was the most ridiculous in its pantomime and, despite my having received threats, was removed. |

Well you obviously do think it's worth the argument. In fact, from a quick review of your not entirely large total of posts, you seem to find pretty much any thread worth arguing about.
Anyway, your quote above is absolutely not the case at Aramco where both direct and contractor teachers get paid very well indeed. In fact, it's the contracted teachers, not Aramcons, who are offered up to 10% pay rises every year.
BTW, Aramco is not, unlike VS, an acronymn, and you can therefore save yourself the bother of holding your shift key down when you type it |

But but... I'm not an acronym!! Those are my initials. So, isn't it more accurately an initialism?

technically you're right... and if you're that much a fan of detail, I expect less from your shift key in future |
