It strikes me that some are suckered into EFLing because of their mistaken belief that it is exotic and glamorous - like working for an Arab airline !

As a new hire in Qatar, we recently had a presentation in our orientation from a native educated Qatari about Qatar. In his presentation there was a comment about the shame and embarrassment he feels for the way Asians are treated. It was enlightening how that was part of the orientation.

Both the UAE and even Saudi are honoring minimum wage agreements for 1500riyal/dirham ($400us) a month (currencies almost at par in each country.). In Qatar, refusal to increase the average 900 a month ($247US) has led to a mere 20 back-door visas being issued in Jan2014.

http://www.arabianbusiness.com/qatar-visas-still-issued-filipinos-despite-ban-489385.html (and many other googled articles)

Qatar has met the Filipino government's request with a denial of new visa requests for almost all Filipinos. (Other nations have requested lower 20-30%lower imits on their expatriates salaries so their visas are issued.)

From conservative estimates, there are 200,000 Filipinos in Qatar and dropping each month as Qatar the world's wealthiest nation per GDP, is debated-ably the most stingy country in the world. No more visas for those money grubbing Filipinos who want a wage increase from being the average lowest paid maids of the wealthiest countries who hire foreign workers.
