Hello:

This is probably a dumb question but how do people travel to more remote island here. I am interested in going to Flores or Drawan or Raja ampat (spelling errors I am sure). Do those of you have that have been there just use guide books and wing it? Is there a travel agent you use? Or is it a matter of having an Indonesian significant other?

Thanks for any sort of help in regards to travel here in Indo.

There are a couple of ways you can do Flores, probably the easiest is with Pertama Travel, they do package tours that can be tailored to take in other islands if you want.

When I went there it was seat of the pants stuff.

I booked a flight in Bali with Transnusa Airlines (possibly defunct now?). When I arrived I just jumped in the first bimo whose driver looked some way trust worthy. He sorted out my hotel in Labuhan Bajo (a bit on the pricey side, but worth the money and I'd been saving for a while for the trip so was willing and able to shell out! http://www.golohilltop.com/) and hooked me up with a boat crew to take me to Komodo / Rinca.

The boat trip was 2 days and 1 night and cost 3.5ish (this is 4 years ago so take it for granted that prices have gone up, also I did the trip on my own so it'd obviously work out a bit cheaper if you're in a group) but that covered everything including food and beer and access to the parks.

I've not been to the other 2 islands so can't help there. Enjoy the trip, boss.

I would advise you look at the website Tripadvisor, which has massive amounts of reviews about everything related to travel.

It's worth noting that travel east of Bali is easier from Denpasar than Jakarta. Denpasar serves a minor hub for the Nusa Tenggara region, which includes Flores. Merpati Airlines used to be the main airline on remote routes, but it has now stopped all flights. They may go into receivership. Garuda is stepping in to fill some routes, but prices may rise.
