LCB have said that there maybe a possibility of summer work (June - Sept) I was wondering if anyone does or has worked for LBC and knows the likelyhood of this and how many hours or much salary you can expect?

I've got a telephone interview today for a 5mth contract til the end of May and was just wondering what people think about LBC and about living in Bari.

And, what's all this talk about it being a scam??

Also, I know it would be best to already know some Italian, but as of yet I don't speak a word. Is it easy to get by in the first few months while I'm learning??

All I know about them is that they frequently advertise for teachers. Do you know what sort of work it is? Summer school for kids perhaps?

Don't worry too much about not speaking Italian, as long as there's someone around who can help you out with your paperwork etc. Maybe the school also provide Italian lessons?

I have never been to Bari, but haven't great things about it. Brindisi is supposed to be nicer, and Lecce nicer still.

Thanks for the luck...I got the job and I'm moving on Wednesday!! Fast start to the New Year!!

Well the contact person seemed really nice and has already set up shared accommodation 5mins walk from the school.

I'm going for a 6mth contract teaching mainly adults and university students prep for TOEFL, TOEIC and Cambridge exams. I may also be working at an air base near Foggia (sp?) for a bit too.

The school offers free Italian classes and lots of teacher development seminars so fingers crossed!

For other interested teachers: they have a staff of about 75 full time teachers during the academic year which drops to about 15 in June and July then to about only 4 for August.
They cater to ages 3+ but the majority of their students are 20-40s

If anyone wants to know anything else, ask me in a couple of weeks!

It's a scam cuz the scammers have hijacked the info of the actual school (which does not hire non-EU passport holders). Non-EU citizens cannot buy legal work permits for Italy, either through a recruiter, lawyer, or school.
There is no job for an American (or Canadian, etc), and the money they will ask you to send will not buy you a working visa for Italy. They will instead put it towards their next sports car purchase, or something similar, I can assure you .

Biggest red flag: non-EU citizens can't get legal work teaching in Italy (or Spain, or Greece, or France, etc.) unless
1. they get citizenship in the country through ancestry
2. get a working holiday visa (sometimes Canadians and Australians in a certain age range are eligible)
3. marry a local
4. enroll in a full-time program of university study and teach part time on a student visa
5. in rare instances, have qualifications that no EU teacher available has, and which are specifically needed by the institution - this is by definition not an option for a regular language school.
