While it has been a good gig, an email from the Employee Relations Officer may have put serious doubts in faculty minds.

Today, the ERO sent an email to offer all staff, workshops on how to spruce up your CV and interview "tips". This is out of the blue, no rationale for the offer provided in the brief email.

This has never been offered to staff in the past 12 years. And still those on one year contracts interested in reapplying for their jobs have no jobs yet posted to apply to.

One dean has told their staff they have no idea what the future holds for their faculty or the college and to stop asking.

Faculty who have been renewed, 2, 3 or even 4 contracts in the past and have been told they will have to reapply this time as they "don't meet NL's requirements" - the requirements have always been in place and have not changed over the years. Will NL be prepared for any actions at law if these people apply and are not renewed? After all, this is a Canadian contract, signed on Canadian soil and therefore subject to Canadian labour precedent. Just how deep are the NL taxpayer pockets, CNA will probably find out.

After all, if the faculty were "good enough" for 3 or 4 or 8 or 10 years. What's changed besides the mindset? The requirements were always in every job post.

Some people who have 2 or 3 year contracts are beginning to worry that everyone will be on the block soon as a result of this email about workshops
