I have a bachelors in Sociology with a concentration in Spanish, TESL certification (that was done in-class, included a practicum and is approved by the British Council), and a masters in nonprofit management. I have 3 years ESL teaching experience to mainly adults.

I would like to teach outside of the U.S. preferably in the Middle East (UAE to be more specific). I am considering pursuing a MA in applied linguistics/TESOL. I would like to teach adults but I am not sure if I would need to be certified to teach and the MA in Applied Linguistics/TESOL does not lead to certification.

Would it be necessary to pursue the MA in Applied Linguistics/TESOL? What are my options?

As we all know, work in the U.S. is scarce even for the most qualified among us. I am ready for change.

I'm a bit confused. When you say "certification", what do you mean? That typically means that you have licensure from your state as a public school (i.e., K-12) teacher. That won't help you at all if you want to teach adults (i.e., post-secondary), and so won't be required by (post-secondary) employers. An MA is typically what is required for post-secondary positions.

With an MA in Applied Linguistics / TESOL, you would be qualified to teach at one of the universities in the UAE. You would not need teacher certification.
