SQU has grown past its ability to provide consistently acceptable housing for all, as it was for many years. It has become the crapshoot that so many other places have long been. As usual, we TEFLers are at the bottom of the university pecking order. New staff tend to end up with the leftovers.
SQU needed to build more housing years ago... a couple blocks of flats would cure the problem. But, money is always the catch.

I'm new here on this board, but I'm not new to dealing with SQU housing. The comments here are very interesting. The Language Centre at SQU is a great place to work and I would recommend the job itself to prospective teachers anytime... with one major caveat. That would be housing
It seems to really come down to the luck of draw for new teachers accepting the university provided housing. If you're lucky (as I believe I was), then you will be very happy here. However if you're not, be prepared for a stressful and potentially very frustrating battle which may or may not be worth it depending on your situation when you come to work here. Feel free to pm me with specific questions... |

TO follow up on what another poster said last year regarding SQU housing-- new teachers BE PREPARED to write down/photograph/record EVERYTHING upon arrival at your SQU furnished apartment.
If you do not, then be prepared to pay for damages you are not responsible for. Unfortunately, people do damage the flats and furniture and so housing is only doing their job. The trouble is- they may not keep records of payment collected from previous tenants, and so without evidence, that will fall on you.
New teachers be forewarned of this!! |
