In China, more and more jobs are opening up to teach in "International Academies", i.e. public or private schools that have a school within their school that uses international curriculum. Many of these are asking for experience/training in teaching students how to pass a myriad of proficiency/entrance exams for schools in the west, i.e. SAT, IELTS, etc.
I am looking for a training program - preferably online - that will teach me how to prepare students for these exams. Any suggestions? Google was not very kind to me  |

| Thanks...that would work. But how do I do that? When I google, all I get are hits about courses that students can take to prepare them to take the exams, not for teachers to learn how to prepare students to take the exams. |

I imagine you'd apply to to an official IELTS test centre in China. The British Council would be the place to start.
However, from reading the China boards, I think there are all sorts of ups and downs going on right now with IELTS examiners and terms and conditions. Really don't know what the score is there. |

Usually IELTS examiners worked as a teacher for most of the time, and did examining on the side. However, in China this is illegal (mostly), as you're only meant to have one employer, the one who sponsors your visa/residency permit. The BC are thinking about making all examiners full time, to comply with Chinese laws, which mean the only job they could do would be examining. |

It's a catch 22 situation, employers want you to have that experience, but without working there you can't get that experience. I was able to break into it by reading about the tests, being able to answer any questions potential employers had, and showing how the experience I did have would translate.
As far as teacher training goes, I'm not aware of any specific course that teaches you how to teach IETLS, SAT, etc. Most are on the job training. I think the best thing would be to get your hands on course books or guides for teachers. Then try and interview for positions that teach these classes. |

Good question. But is the total number of points just a percentage of what we should consider?
