Hi all:)
I was hoping someone might have some recent information about the Emirates College for Advanced Education (ECAE) located in Abu Dhabi. In particular, any information about work conditions and salary package would be great.
Thanks and all the best |

They don't have a foundation year program, so apparently you're asking about positions teaching content---those that require a doctorate degree, correct? |

According to their 2013/2014 catalog they have a two semester foundation program and a whole bunch of their teachers hold only MA or MS. It looked like about half of them.

Thanks for pointing that out, VS. Oddly, they don't have a direct link to their foundation year program on their website; it has be to located via a search.
There's an older thread about this college which may or may not help: "Emirates College for Advanced Education" http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=49367 |

Thanks for the link Nomad. I had a look at it, but was hoping for some more up-to-date information. There is not a lot around about the college ... not sure if that is a good or bad thing. |

They used Phoenix Gulf recruitment agency to interview at TESOL Arabia, although this was just a screening interview. The agency said that a Masters was sufficient. Since then everything has gone quiet. |

Understood. Also, since the ESL Cafe focuses mostly on TESOL, we don't see too many inquiries about professorship/faculty positions teaching content in BA and MA degree programs. Plus, the work environment for those teaching an academic subject versus EFL may differ. You'll likely have to apply anyway in order to get answers to your questions. |

I got a response back from a person who left and still has friends there.
Quote: |
The PhD salary is 25,000, but employees are saying that was an old ad. Housing is 10,000/month. PhDs get 50,000 for ed allowance, 2 kids max. I suspect that means non PhDs are getting less. they were monitoring their every move, not allowing people to leave for lunch without making up the time. That seems to have eased up. Faculty have flex hours when not teaching if they are actively doing research. Non-native speaking faculty were required to take the IELTS and some were axed over it in the past. I would send NO ONE there, myself. Professionally, it's a wasteland. |
This is just one person's opinion, of course... but thought you might be interested.
