For those who teach on line...

First, does anyone have opinions on promoting yourself and getting new clients?

Theres some sites out there that say they will help promote your services if you pretty much work for yourself.
I work for a company right now but I wanted to try to work for myself a little bit and see how it goes.
I was just wondering what works for people out there doing the on line thing.

Do you talk to directors at schools?
Do you depend mostly on friends?
Do you go to Walmart on busy Saturday mornings and pass out your card in line?
Do you post up notices at bus stops?
or
Do you do a mix of everything?

Second, does anyone have strong opinions about platforms they use for online teaching?
Theres one company that wants around $19.00 per month which is fine.
I just don't know anyone who uses them.
But, the slides look real nice and very much like what I use now at my company.
A girl sent me the information on facebook with the names of the platforms but now I can't locate it.
Anyway, I was leaning towards using skype only because I'm familiar with other platforms
It does not mean other platforms aren't great - it only means I'm getting into an area I'm not familiar with.

Unlikely that too many language school directors (assuming that's who you mean) will be happy to hook you up with their paying students.

It's kind of like getting privates. It's all about word of mouth. Maybe try working for another company and that will give you some more info about what works and what doesn't. Thn branch out on your own. Craigslist might be a good place to start. Or advertising locally. How you advertise depends on where you are. What works in one place may not work in another.
