|
|
I'm thinking that online EFL teaching has matured to the point that it warrants a forum on Dave's.
Sure, there's the Technology forum, but the focus there is on technology in general and not on online teaching.
Thoughts?
How does one propose a forum officially? (The FAQ might address this, but it doesn't seem to be working.) |

PM the MODs with your proposal. Perhaps it could be combined with the technology forum, for example: Technology & Online Teaching. |

Thanks, NS.
I'm guessing "The Mods" are the four individuals who appear in each forum's description, such as Mr. Kaqukshi, et al?
I'd prefer not to marginalize online teaching by just lumping it together with "technology." It's mature enough to stand on its own.
Connection/communication technology is one dimension of online teaching, just as smart boards, tablets, and recording/listening devices/apps are one dimension of f2f teaching.
Some potential areas of discussion re: online teaching:
1. Compensation for work (quantity, method, and currency);
2. Quality of experience with the various companies;
3. Bleeding-edge online communication tools;
4. Audio-only versus visual-audio experiences with learners;
5. Best practices for different levels of online learners;
6. Because online teachers may work with learners from many countries (for example, in my case: China, Brazil, Italy, Spain, Thailand, Japan, Mexico, Ecuador ... ), what are the common, L1/country-specific learner challenges?
7. Tips for ensuring full participation in online virtual classrooms
8. Entrepreneurial issues - setting up your own stable of students, payment methodologies, etc.
9. AND the technological considerations of a good online experience, such as sound, lighting, equipment

Years ago, I (among others) suggested changing the name of the TOEFL forum to include ALL tests including IELTS. The OPs suggestion is equally vaild so let's see what will become of it. |
