Hi,
I applied to teach English overseas in Abu Dhabi. I have a string of brief teaching jobs but no experience teaching ESL/TEFL.
What is a good way to prepare for teaching overseas? I'm searching for books on the topic, lesson planning, discipline - anything that would help.
Thank you. |

Obviously, the job ads indicate what's required, but for university foundation year positions, you'd need a relevant MA + 3 or more years of TEFL experience at the tertiary level. Language schools have lower requirements; however, those positions are filled locally by qualified Emiratis as well as expats who are already sponsored residents of the UAE.
You didn't mention your academic credentials or teaching qualifications, but generally, newbie EFL teachers gain their first few years of experience in Asia. |

Note:
On this forum when Americans say 'Asia' as opposed the middle east they seem to mean 'East and South East Asia'. |
