Hey Folks,
I have been living in Egypt teaching social studies at an American school for the past four years. My wife and I want to return to California to improve our credentials. I have a degree in history from a University of California, and my wife has bachelors degree in English from the University of Alexandria, Egypt. We would like to later move to relatively moderate Muslim country that is isn't on the verge of collapse every hour. I have the following questions about Turkey.
1) What credentials would afford me the best possible opportunity to establish long-term residence in Turkey? I am looking into the MA in TESOL at San Francisco State which offers a teaching practicum, which other responders have said would replace a CELTA certification. Also, I am also interested in teaching social studies. Do Turkish schools offer history in English to students?
2) My wife is Egyptian, but she will be taking her American citizenship in a few years. Once we arrive to the US, she will work to earn her Master's degree in English literature and a MA in TAFL (Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language). Are there jobs for Arabic teachers in Turkey?
3) I have a two year-old daughter. Would she be able to find an acceptable educated in Turkey?
4) What are your general thoughts and observances about living in Turkey? (Note: My family and I are Muslim) |
