Getting housing will help. With Westgate you could argue it is expensive but it just makes it easier.
I think you would have to live with two other people.
I have seen Westgate housing in Sagamihara, Kanagawa. It isn't bad at all.

It seems that Nagoya is better. Less demanding work with a better commute.
In fact one woman told me Westgate teaching in Nagoya was easier than university teaching in Tokyo.

I've also seen Westgate housing in Sagamihara, and I agree that it is nice. Having housing provided is convenient, but it does come at a cost. I think my friend who worked for Westgate had to share an apartment. I'm not sure if that's true of all Westgate housing or not.

These blog posts pretty much reflect what I've heard.

I think having to follow a lesson plan would be a bummer.
I have already taught at a university in Japan, and value the freedom to teach in my classroom. I have been here for years and don`t need someone to hold my hand.
But Westgate sure does beat being underemployed.

Dear Mitsui and RTM

Thank you for making the effort to respond. Valuable feedback. I filled out Wingate application. I would like to follow up with an employee at Wingate. Would you happen to know a contact there?

Cheers-Matt

I hope when you filled out the application, you got their name right. Might want to double check that.

The company's name is Westgate. Wingate is the name of a firewall/routing server software, or the name of a university.

I've never worked for them myself, so all my info is hearsay. Hope someone who has actually worked for them chimes in.

I do. She teaches in Nagoya now, and is at a woman`s school.
Ask any questions and I can check with her and post it here.

Hi Mitsui,

I wonder if I can jump into this thread? I am thinking about applying for Westgate and the Aichi/Nagoya location would be my preference. If you could ask your friend these questions, I would appreciate it:

1. Other than following set lesson plans, is there much micromanagement?

2. What's her usual working day like? (Commute time to work, how many lessons, how's the desk warming? Co-workers?)

3. What's her opinion of the students ability/attitude?

4. What's life like in Nagoya?

Cheers!

3. Good.
2. Not so tough. She compared it to work in Tokyo, and it is easier.
Not the usual problems with motivation, showing up late, making excuses, etc.
I think less than 10 koma per week.

4. Smaller than Tokyo, less crowded, stuff to do.

If you are a female it would be a good opportunity and she preferred Nagoya to Tokyo.
