The only option for "tourism" in Saudi is expensive tours for those who can tolerate this sort of thing. (a type of travel that the average TEFLer avoids like the plague) I wonder how many of these are actually done. I suspect that the annual numbers are very small.

I did! Saudi Arabia is a VERY interesting and beautiful country with a rich ancient history and beautiful scenery, mountains etc. Forget about the religion, and the rest of the nonsense and enjoy what the area offers.
I've been to most places, some I had to miss out because I didn't have the time.
Muslims and non-Muslims should try it without prejudice! There is more to Saudi than hanging around in compounds, malls with ex-pats. You can do that back home! |

Your advice is sound except KSA and the Salafis make the whole "forget about the religion" aspect quite difficult. I've heard of the organized tours available in the KSA. However after the French tourists killed back in '07, and the recent terror cells uncovered this year, I wouldn't even dream of setting foot in that country. |
