How long does it take to hear a reply back from them if you've applied to International Houses in Poland?

Depends very much on the individual school.

Did you apply blindly or in response to an advertisement?

What does "apply blindly" mean?

I think he meant "apply cold." Just sending your C.V. without knowing if they are looking for someone.

Exactly that, thanks Smile

All I know is that Poles in general are quite dreadful about replying to e-mails. Silence is unfortunately quite normal.

I applied in response to job advertisements. Thanks for letting me know that. It's a bit of a relief, but at the same time, it still makes me anxious about the whole job application process.

As in most countries, responses generally will only go to those who make the short list.

Be patient if you are going this route. You have to balance tenacity with perception and common sense.

Best of Luck!

Give it two weeks. Then follow up with a polite email letting them know you're still interested.

If there's a large number of similarly-qualified applicants, this may help set you apart and get you hired.

Don't work for IH as the wages are dire even with the free flat, which won't be a gem anyways.

That's not exactly helpful, is it?

I imagine the OP knows what the wages are and they're comfortable applying for the job, otherwise they wouldn't be asking for advice.

Warning someone that he/she will live in abject poverty on those wages is IMHO an act of public service.

Hardly. Not to mention that they'll only be working 24 hours a week, leaving plenty of time to earn more money elsewhere.

For some people in Europe, a decent sized room in a shared flat and 500 Euro a month in their hand is actually not bad at all.

When I worked for the IH Koszalin group they stipulated no private work in the contract and paid you through a UK front called Glenrex to avoid Polish tax, which they stated they paid.

500 Euro a month in Europe is astonishingly awful. Free flat? enjoy the block on the edge of town a mere 25Zl home in a taxi, which is a large chunk of the 80 or so Zl you'll earn a day.

Yet more hubris from the oracle.
