Does anyone know if you can still claim ancestry in Spain. And if so how far back can you?

Thanks for any info.

This is evidently the most relevant info:

http://www.mjusticia.gob.es/cs/Satellite/es/1215198282620/Estructura_P/1215198295149/Detalle.html

according to wiki, you can't go back very far at all:
Quote:
those individuals whose father or mother had been originally Spanish and born in Spain
, but hey, that's just wiki.

Suggest you contact the nearest Spanish Embassy to you and ask for real info.

It's definitely possible because I have a friend who did this recently. One parent was born in Spain and it took awhile but my friend ultimately got a passport.

It is possible, but the circumstances are limited. Naturally, if one of your parents was Spanish, or you were adopted, but that is it. No grandparents, etc, like in some places. My paternal grandfather was Spanish, so I looked into it, and it was a no go. He lived most of his life in Mexico and my father was born in Mexico, so that was the end of it.
