Hi all

Those of you who are American and are familiar with our providers, could you please reply here?

Sprint is claiming to have unlocked this iPhone bought here 'to a 3rd party'. My friend is skeptical that this means it is going to work when she arrives in Doha next month. I am too. What do you think?

If she gets to Doha and can't use it, would there be any place she could take it to have 'unlocked' properly?

I took my phone from the US to Taiwan last year unlocked---- I had to contact my former carrier (AT&T) and request a password to be entered in order to work with a different company.

Your friend might want to request a password as a backup plan.

Hope this helps,

Texas

If it has indeed been unlocked and she can get a sim card right away, she should be OK. In some cases, people have had to wait until they have their RP before being able to get a SIM card. In other cases, their employers have been able to provide the SIM card for the employee - depends on your employer.

I am not sure if you can get a "visitor" SIM card on arrival but it doesn't hurt to ask.

If it hasn't been unlocked properly, there are any number of little mobile phone stores that should be able to do so on arrival.

From what I understand, RP is necessary only for post-paid plans (e.g., Ooredoo's Shahry). One can get a pre-paid (e.g., Ooredoo's Hala) SIM with only a passport (including visitors).
