Dear respected teacher X

Your stated conduct is inconsistent with how a good Communist should comport himself in our glorious new society.

Please have a small bag packed and ready for when officers from the Dept of Re-education call around to collect you. Warm clothing advisable.

With Communist greetings

Sasha

Like other people before me have said, it's fine.

That's pretty normal. They shout at me all the time. Now I vaguely understand what they're shouting about and it's utter drivel. When women become babooshki they just seem to hate the world and everyone in it.

They are berating you for your lack of ideological commitment. And all you youngsters, local and foreign, should heed their words! Socialist ardour is what drove them all the way to the beast's lair in Berlin to strike the scourge of Hitlerism from the face of the earth.

Do not cross them. What are you to the Leibstandarte Guard Battalion?

After thinking rationally about it, I decided that it's probably fine as well. I guess there was an initial "freak out" when the news came out, but that's probably what the sensationalist media is trying to achieve anyway. Seems mostly political. In reality New York is probably more dangerous than many parts of the world, as they often say.

I have heard vague rumors of some schools having issues with work permits, but it's hard to say what's going on without the details, but I imagine it's probably fine for the average joe. That being said, I don't have any particular opinion on the war situation, seems pretty complicated and really none of my business anyway. When in Rome, do as the Romans as they say as well.

Speaking about babooshki, what is with the weird dichotomy between young and old Russian women?!

Those under 30 look absolutely divine yet once they are over 40 the descent downward begins and by the time they are full babooshki they really look weathered.

Is it the cold climate, poorer food choices or just general harder way of life?

Think of Russian women as pokemon. The Babushka is the ultimate evolutionary form of the Russian woman. She is at her peak level of aggression and combat effectiveness.

Returning to the topic, my experience goes back to the summer of the Crimean, erm, reallocation. I would make three points.

When you travel, it is more important than ever to carry your passport and other relevant papers; you may have to show it to a masked official carrying a sub-machine gun.

Avoid the company of street drunks.

Avoid discussions with taxi drivers you don't know.

The last two points are probably good advice anywhere in the world, but they are the folks most likely in my experience to get hot under the collar about foreigners in general and your membership of this category in particular.

Good points there, Cole.

I'd add that refraining from political topics in the classroom is more advisable than ever. Older students can have some unpalatable views, so if a teacher is easily offended, then sparks can fly. Always best avoided.
