Hi all,

First time poster here as I have recently started a job search in the UAE. Got an offer today of a teaching post in Fujairah. I am hesitant whether to accept or not (just yet) as there doesn't seem to be much information out there about living in Fujairah. I have looked at various forums (including threads on this site) but they seem quite old and don't fully satisfy my concerns. I am female in my late 20s. I am an outgoing person who likes meeting new people. How easy is it to meet people in Fujairah? Is there a large expat community in the area? I've seen some activities like diving.... but for those of you living there what does your average evening(mid-week/weekend) look like? I am a bit afraid of feeling isolated... I like my own company but really need to have friends around to have a chat with and share my experiences.

All comments to give me a clearer picture of life in Fujairah welcome!

Many thanks in advance

To be honest, IMHO Fujairah will be too boring for someone of your age. It isn't all that big and within a couple months you will likely know every expat in town... too well. And the majority of them will likely be married and twice your age. Laughing

Thank you VS for the reply. That was what I suspected. I do have a friend in Ras-al Khaimah so had hoped that would provide a nice weekend escape.... but I suppose I probably shouldn't move somewhere if I'm already looking for escape routes! Not looking for a crazy party lifestyle, far from it. I'd be fairly happy to have someone with similar interests to go for coffee or a drink with/play tennis/go to gym... nothing major. Just good company. Maybe I'll try to negotiate with my prospective employer to go to another one of their sites, maybe in RAK where my friend is... Thanks again!

If your prospective employer is HCT you may get to state a preference on location but they will have the final say. I know one person who was told one emirate before travelling and another just as they were ready to travel (literally days).

However, this hasn't happened recently to my knowledge.
