I agree!

Well, for the time being, maybe we can use this forum to try to accomplish those aims until something else is established. We can even write guidelines for newcomers and maybe ask a moderator to make it a sticky. In addition, I am interested in joining any such teachers' association.

Also, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind pasting the letter you sent to YÖK here.

On Tuesday, June 23rd, all foreign teachers in all language sections were called in to a meeting with the school's director to be told that we are all about to lose our jobs. A 'change' in structure...we were told...means that the student numbers for next year will be less than 50% of this year's. As a result there are too many teachers. Since the Turkish teachers have tenure, the foreigners have to go...only 2/3 out of 12 will stay. When will we be told? No info. How much notice will we have? No info. Who will decide? No info. How will the decision be reached? No info.
The same staff we then asked to contribute materials for a new online testing system...
Of course, these events have no connection with a recent series of complaints to YOK, and the subsequent YOK investigation.
And, given the reasons given for the redundancies, it's odd that the SFL was advertising for staff on the YOKSIS pages just tens days ago and that the internal HR people say that the school hired a new foreign teacher last week...

This comes as no surprise...English teachers (native speakers) are a dime a dozen in Turkey....add to that the Turkish Lira is losing its value against the US Dollar and Euro Dollar daily....add to that the more stringent work visa/permit requirements on native English teachers wishing to teach in Turkey. I sincerely believe only Turkish EFL teachers (non-native speakers) will only be on the payroll soon.....in most if not all over Turkey).
