Hey,
I was wondering if anybody had any experience with the Polyglot Institute in Muscat? |

They are a language center with other vocational programs on tap, especially in Sohar. Locally owned, I believe fairly well managed. Been around for many years here.
Not high on the pay scale for sure but as with ELES, adult students who are very pleasant to teach and engage with in the classroom. |

It doesn't seem too bad financially from what I've seen 1,100 with housing.
Could someone with a recently finished MA, with no middle Eastern experience do better? |

You might try Nizwa University, Dr Khalfan I think. They almost always recruit, and from my experience they did/do have very young teachers. |

A newly-minted MA in what? And how much TEFL experience?
Frankly, if you hope to negotiate for a higher salary, be aware Oman pays the lowest of the GCC. |

Around 4 years and a MA in ELT.
It seems like a good deal to me and probably something that I would accept, but just wanted to gauge opinion as I have no idea about the cost of living for Oman. |

Oh, then a lot of Nizwa University Foundation Institute lecturers had no Middle East experience when they joined. Try then the HoD of the FI at UoN. There used to be his email address as well as his mobile phone number on the FI/UoN website. Dr Khalfan is he.

Polyglot - evening classes with motivated, adult learners. Colleges - day classes with often time-passing teenagers.
That's your first decision. |

Is this in Muscat? If they are providing housing on top of the 1,100 then it's possible to live and save a little if you're frugal. Muscat can be expensive depending on your lifestyle. If it's out of Muscat then you can live and save more. I personally wouldn't accept any job in Muscat on less than 15,000. What about the other benefits? Holidays? |

It would be based offshore at an oil company, so not in Muscat like I thought. This would involve 8 weeks there and then back to the UK for a month. It seems like it will be good to save some cash, but probably not too fun! |

Muscat doesn't have to cost that much unless you want to go clubbing etc and many people live there earning less than 1500 |
