I guess that's a weird question. But I'm going to be moving to Bahrain the end of September and I wonder how expats meet friends? I've heard of the "Social clubs", but can't find too much information on it.
Who lives there now and is happy and can give me some advice?
I'm not shy at all. And I wonder if there is an amateur actors group or... other random interest groups to meet new people.

| Everyone whom I've met who taught in that corner of the world was unhappy, but I have met non-teachers who had a blast. It is entirely possible that the social network is offline, so nobody knows. |

I know you posted the question 2 years ago but am replying in case anyone is looking for an answer now:
The easiest/fastest way to meet people is to join InterNations and go to their events (there is one big one a month and several smaller ones)
You can also join the British Club in Bahrain - if you're not shy, it's very easy to just rock up and meet people there.
There is also a choral group but no acting or natural history groups as there are in Qatar, for example. |

Are you sure there are no amateur theatre (acting) groups? The Manama Players used to be very active indeed (and pretty professional, too). Of course, it is several years since I was in Bahrain and it is entirely possible that the prevailing political climate and/or declining Western expat population may have resulted in their demise.
I definitely second the British Club though. Having studiously and perhaps foolishly avoided the place for years, I eventually found it to be an excellent place to meet interesting people of all backgrounds. I also found the Wine Bar at Mansouri Mansions to be very sociable, with an eclectic mix of educated locals and expats from all corners of the globe. |

The British Club was established in colonial times as "The Gymkhana Club". The mindset is still English suburban/colonial circa 1930.
Try Wendy's Bar instead. More interesting. |
