|
|
It looks like all foreign and Omani teachers at the Colleges of Technology are being offered [or not] direct hire starting the next academic year. Ministry of Manpower are currently sending representatives from their personnel Dept. to have all agency staff fill out forms that clearly state-'Application for government employment' as a header. Along with the form staff need to provide copies of references, CV's. education certificates etc.....everything that they supplied to the agency they were hired by. Of course, the colleges aren't telling the staff this-the talk is of security of information, whatever that means....but clearly in a time of impending economic hardship cutting out 'the middleman' and reducing teacher's salaries is seen as a move in the right direction. |

Interesting. Just out of curiosity, do you happen to know Tazz if Manpower and the agencies offer similar employment packages? In regards to the colleges of applied sciences, I know that the conditions offered by the Ministry of Higher Education are better than what the agency employees get, but, the Ministry's application processes can be fairly lengthy and you really need a Masters or a DELTA to be competitive. |

From what I understand, the Ministry wants more control. Hence, the centralized collection of data.
There is an acute shortage in some of the colleges, which means that staff have to take on additional classes. This can be up to for extra 4 evenings.
Staff who refuse do so at their own peril.
Apparently, overtime will be paid one day - Inshallah.
Long term, I suspect that the workload will increase for the same salary of course as classes have to be covered and the Sultanate's national budget is severely in the red. |

At which HCT has this been happening? We've seen nothing of this in Salalah... |

This may be related to the plan to transfer the HCT's across to the MoHE sometime this year. |
