|
|
I see volunteer work advertised in Cuba where the costs to volunteer (aka give MY ESL teaching skills) are over $1200 USD for 3 weeks in shared accommodation.
Obviously a for-profit business is advertising this. Any less costly volunteer situations? For example, in Havana an apt for 3 costs at most $800/month.
The volunteer situations I am familiar with do not cost much and maintenance costs (food/lodging) are real 3rd world costs. |

Look for an organization that will allow you to do a homestay. Your best bet would be to do a Google search for non-profit NGOs or church-related organizations that offer volunteer opportunities in Cuba. The number of such organizations based in Europe and Canada will be far greater than in the U.S. since U.S. Treasury Department rules, until recently, have made it difficult for U.S.-based organizations to operate in Cuba. |

As for "water rat", if I knew so much I would not be here. You must note that I was asking for information, NOT offering any. Sheesh
As for esl_prof... THANK YOU for the advice. Yes, I have already started that with NGOs/Church groups outside the USA - simply because of their history in working with Cuban people. |

Never pay to "volunteer".
Just my two cents.
Warm regards,

If you're a U.S. or Canadian citizen, send me a PM and I can give you the names of a couple of church groups that have connections in Cuba. |

Nowadays there just aren't enough paying TEFL jobs for EFL teachers in the Caribbean....even a monthly stipend or allowance is hard to come by these days....so it seems most TEFLers are happy to volunteer if they wish to teach there....especially in Cuba |
