I have a job interview for an American school in Marrakesh. I've heard good things about the work environment but I'm wondering about the cost of living in Marrakesh. I'm trying to save money to pay off my student loans. The pay is 32k USD/ year. I'm hoping to save around 20K. I can live pretty cheaply; I lived on 500k month in Korea and I'm looking to live on something similar in Morocco.

Marrakesh is a huge tourist resort...and very expensive. The money you will be earning is very, very good for Morocco....on that salary you should be able to save some money...especially if they provide you with free room and board. Otherwise consider yourself lucky to receive such a high paying job offer for Morooco! Shocked

Yeah, they are apparently paying for housing. That's what it says on the headhunter's page anyway. I'm really excited for it, I'm just hoping I get it.

Good luck with paying off your student loans. I would recommend a year in the Middle East for that... Still, your offer of 32k USD and housing seems fab!

Hopefully, we will see more offers like this springing up for good teachers!

EFL Headhunters?? Did you have to pay a finders fee to get this job? If so their offer may sound too good to be true...especially for Morocco! Shocked

Exchange control was never a problem in Morocco for English teachers until about ten years ago...back in the 70's, 80's and even 90's one could travel through Moroccan customs without any hassles at all regarding your own money. Nowadays forget it....ALL your money in foreign currency has to be declared upon arrival and departure...
