Hi there, does anyone know if there's some sort of certification for teaching maths abroad. Something similar to a CELTA?
Thanks |

You mostly have to be able teach in the local language - and compete with the locals - unless you have the qualifications to get into an international school (licensure from your home country and two years teaching there, usually). |

PYP at Saudi Universities often include Math - taught through English (at least in theory through English). Most of the teachers are from South Asia and the Arab World.
As previous poster indicates, International Schools may be best. |

This thread is relevant, but you'll have to sift through the side comments:
"How Do Certifications Work from Each Westernized Country?"

In North America it's called a Bachelor of Education degree with Maths as a teaching specialty.
It takes 5 to 6 years to obtain from a University. Three or four years obtaining a BA or BSC in Maths followed by one or two years obtaining a BEd.
Some schools will hire you just for having a BA or BSC in Maths. They may require you to only teach vocabulary or actually math in high school or lower.
There is no magic ticket to teaching EFL. No special backpacker pass. Not anymore.
Hope this helps. |
