Hi everyone.

I'm hoping to teach English abroad within the next year once I've decided on a TEFL or CELTA course. I'm looking into different countries at the minute to get a sense of where I should go.

I was curious to know if anyone here knows anyone or has themselves taught in Morocco? It doesn't have it's own forum on here but I presumed here would be the best place to post as it is considered culturally similar to the Middle East despite being geographically away from it.

I'm just curious to know what the hiring periods are like and general experiences people have had Smile

Any info would be great!

To The OP,

If Morocco were in the Middle East you would most likely be earning more money and have SAVINGS as an EFL teacher .....as is in North Africa that says a lot....CURRENCY EXCHANGE CONTROLS/RESTRICTIONS, LOW PAY and DUBIOUS EMPLOYERS not to mention high unemployment and limited job prospects in teaching EFL. Shocked

I have a friend who is back in Morocco after working in the Middle East. He was earning more than the usual estimation on Dave's at a language school in Casablanca before going to the Middle East, and he then completed an MA in Applied Linguistics (full-time) and got a good job at one of the universities in Morocco.. He has done well in Morocco and I think many others could with the right quals and inclinations..

There is an age limit there as well, unfortunately. Under 60 fine...over - no chance.

Remember to declare every cent or pence if entering or leaving from Morocco....or it MIGHT be taken away from you by greedy inspectors... NEW CURRENCY CONTROL RULES are severe and you might also be fingerprinted and put in jail. DO NOT CARRY MORE THAN 500 Euros or 700 USD in cash!!!! Be forewarned or be SORRY!!!!! Shocked

Low salaries. Little effective demand for foreign teachers. Exchange Control.

(For those who missed Economics 101 , "Effective Demand" = Naked Demand clothed in Purchasing Power. In layman's terms they want it but don't have the money to pay for it !)
