Hi, has anybody on this forum worked for 'Oxbridge College?'. They are based in Tuen Long Town. I am considering a contract with them. William Morris is the managing director. Any feedback is appreciated. Thank you

Sorry I can't help with the original question, but do you mean 'Yuen Long'?
I've never heard of Tuen Long.

I did mean 'Yuen long' sorry, orthography error. I have done a search on this crew, but nothing materialised. Perhaps they are so small it hires few teachers. It's not important, but I am still looking for a teaching job, any leads would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm a NET, so probably not the best person to help as far as the private sector goes. But, have you tried any of the agencies? I know that a few primary schools are hiring for ELTAs at about this time, although the competition is also intense for these with as many as seven or eight being interviewed for one position. My former colleague used English for Asia a few years ago and they've always got her work. But she's a PR (like me) and often companies are unwilling to go through the hassle/admin of getting a Work Visa for someone when there's already numerous teachers already on the ground. Hong Kong is a very tough nut to first crack.

Re: the company in Yuen Long. Like you I've never heard of them. I suspect that their trading name may be different from their actual English name which makes googling them very difficult. I'm sure they're okay, but bear in mind that if they're a newish outfit then they'll probably be a few issues until they get in their stride, so to speak.

People like you with PR, or back packers with money to sit and wait for interviews to come their way, are in an enviable position. There is no way on earth I can fly to another country or Hong Kong, pay rent in a back packers and wait for a job contract commencement. I need a job organised before I leave Australia, I don't have liquid assets to waste freely, that is for rich people.

Yes and no. I agree that it is relatively difficult to secure a 'good' teaching position from overseas. Difficult, but not impossible. As you mention many companies are reluctant to go through the process of visa sponsorship. However, there are also many companies who are still in real need of English teachers and who are willing to sponsor the right candidate. Via the various forums and groups I see new teachers arriving almost daily (with jobs already secured).

Also, if you manage to get over that first hurdle and start working here, then there are many many more opportunities available once you are on the ground here. The education industry is still in a growth phase, there is heavy demand pretty much across the board.
