I'm not seeing anything that looks like a scam at first glance. It doesn't seem like a particularly appealing deal to me, but that's another matter entirely. Full-time volunteer work for room and board is not that hard to find--there's not much to be gained by paying £650-850 for the privilege. Volunteer teaching opportunities are plentiful in India. I can't see that this organization is offering anything to sweeten the deal.
Another approach is to choose a location that appeals to you, and just go. Settle into an inexpensive hotel for a few weeks. Use that £850 for living expenses; it will take you a long way. Ask around--chances are you'll have a dozen or more (possibly MANY more) opportunities to choose from. You can then investigate them firsthand, and choose the best fit.
If you're not already familiar with IndiaMike, check it out.
