I realize this is a teacher's forum but I am hoping those in Rio won't mind answering the following questions.
I will be a tourist there for a week in July./

How much should a cab from the airport cost to Copacabana?

Any rules for using cabs?

Is it easy to exchange money there or must you go to the bank?

I am paranoid about using the beach as my stuff may be stolen when swimmng. Are there areas where you can pay to safeguard your stuff, eg. lockers?

Are there any basic tourist traps I should look out for?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Dude.

It was a while ago that I went to Rio but one thing I remember is that taxis have two tariffs. IIRC tariff 1 is for everyday use and tariff 2 is for late at night, Sundays and public holidays and is therefore more expensive. Apparently it's a common scam for cabbies to hit the tariff 2 button for foreigners regardless of time of day so make sure you're on the right one before you set off.

Not sure about changing money but there are plenty of international ATMs. Don't remember seeing any lockers at the beach though they may exist.

Sorry I couldn't give you more help. Enjoy yourself, it's an incredible city.
