--> I am returning to retire/live in 'some' Latin American country soon and was thinking about the time I was living in Mexico (1985-1990) and the 'moment' I fell in love with Spanish.
-
--> I was driving up to my girl-friends house. She (age 30) lived with her family in a very traditional house (open courtyard in the center) in a 'lower middle class area'.
-
-->I found her, straw broom in hand, sweeping the street in front of her house. So I asked her, "Que estas haciendo, mija? and replied with a smile as natural as could be, "Estoy barriendo AFUERITA"
-
--> Only in Spanish (or possibly other romance languages) could someone take the word 'afuera' (outside) and make a diminutive out of it.
-
--> TRY that in English !!
