Neither Misrata nor anywhere else in Libya is safe. Also, there certainly are huge problems flying into Libya from anywhere, given that the country's principle airport was destroyed by missiles a year and a half ago and the country has been reduced to utilizing alternate ports of entry. The Tunisia Red Crescent recently went on alert for incoming refugees from Libya because of a possible imminent western bombing campaign against the rapidly-spreading ISIS affiliate in Libya. There are currently escalating multi-dimensional conflicts all over the country involving heavily armed militia groups, both domestic and foreign. The risk level in Misrata has also spiked in recent weeks because of the city's opposition to the nearby ISIS affiliate and the high likelihood of reprisal. Misrata's status as the strongest 'city-state' in the country makes it a relatively high-profile and desirable target for terrorist actors.
The US, Canadian, UK, and Australian ministries of foreign affairs are totally unanimous - do not travel to Libya:

I spent a decade there ie 2005-2014. Think 'Black Hawk Down' and you've got Libya.

Qaddafi was a brutal despot, but - somewhat paradoxically - that made removing him an even worse decision. He systematically dismantled every single institution and alternate power base in the country for 40 years, which resulted in near-chaos and a country pretty much impossible to put back together again when he was violently removed. |

That job will be in Mellitah with Mellitah Gas (ex-Eni Gas). Not safe at all round there. That Tripoli road has been the location of many a kidnapping. It's also next to the place where the Brit and NZ lady were murdered on the beach by Islamists.
I worked in Libya from 2004-Summer 2014. Go there at your considerable peril.
I wouldn't do that job for all the tea in China. I know someone who is actually there! |
