|
|
Hello again and as ALWAYS, Thanking EveryOne Who Responds
-
If you have some knowledge of ColOmbia.
-
I am considering both Mexico and ColOmbia as possible places to retire and find part time work (I'm very creative in that department)
-
I have lived in Mexico for 5 years during the 80's and speak a decent Spanish for a 'Gringo'. I am single, 63, in good health, active, Very OK with Non-Gringo community.
-
In the Mexico forum I was lucky enough to have someone direct me via link to a website that has local rental ads in all of Mexico, which are oriented towards the local population and not high priced 'Gringo Housing'
-
Would anyone know of such a website that has COLOMBIAN apt/house rentals, particularly in Medellin and surrounding communities where I can get a good idea of real costs for my budget.
-
Can you make any suggestions of areas both within Medellin and outskirts or nearby towns
-
I am looking to find a simple-comfortable-clean 1-2 bedroom apt or house in a relatively 'safe' neighborhood with monthly rents No higher than $375 USD ($400 USD if I really have to)
-
Thanking you in advance,
OldandNew

You mean "Colombia."
Have you tried asking on the half dozen or so general expat forums? They reach a broader audience and are best for these types of lifestyle questions. Do an Internet search on: expat forum Colombia. |

I would go to the the MedellinLiving.com website. He has quite a bit about housing, both long and short term. He also has articles with links to Colombian sources as well as the always pricier gringo ones (even when they are the same apartment).
I live in Las Magnolias in Envigado and love it more than my time in Pablado and Belen. Just looked at a decent two bedroom unfurnished, with a friend searching, and she wanted 740k unfurnished. Of course when we walked by and asked the neighbors they said they were told she would be asking about 450-600k. Haha
Envigado is extremely safe. Big thing about it being "controlled", and hence troublemakers are not welcome. People will brag it is crime free, but that of course is an exaggeration.
I know a great young Colombian lady that speaks great English that will do the footwork for you. Referred a couple newcomers to her and they were very pleased with her and her rates, especially compared to the previous helpers who were really helping themselves and the landlords. PM me on her if you want.
You'll still need to worry about the longer term visa. As I work online and don't want to commit to anything concrete here, looks like I will be taking off end of June when my 180 days are up. Different options on how to stay longer on the above mentioned website. Also, live with a Colombian woman for at least three months and you can stay (they do check now).
Very pleased you reconsidered after when we met in the Philippines forum. Colombia is a much better country, albeit perhaps not brimming with decent employment opportunities if that is the route you intend to take. Not that the Philippines is! I also certainly feel a lot safer here than I did in Cebu.
I love Nomad Soul. Popping around more forums than even I do. You can get more from the expat groups. But as you probably already know, you will run across those fishing for new clients to skim and scam. |

Craigslist and Internations would be obvious starting points. |
