Hi, I'm a UK citizen considering working in Germany . My wife is a Chinese national who would also like to work. She's profssonaly qualified in law and with very good English and reasonable German as well as her native Mandarin.

Has anybody else been in this position? Any advice?

No advice. Just a "welcome back" to the Café.

Are you mostly doing instructional design work? Or are you focusing on TEFL?

Your wife should probably take a look at Chinese companies based in Germany since there's been a lot of Chinese investment in Europe.

It will depend on the UK if it will be IN or OUT from the EU after the June referendum?

If the UK will be OUT from the EU, then it will be a hard time for the UK citizens to find jobs in Germany.

I hope you will vote for the UK to be IN not OUT from the EU. Smile

Good luck.

'Professionally qualified' i.e. from China?

If so then no, I worked in law and every single application with a Chinese lwa degree was rejected, most have zero clue about a real law system.

I had almost the same situation, UK citizen, working in Germany, Asian wife.

If all your paperwork is in order, which isn't a tall order, she'll get a five-year German residence/work permit within a few hours at the Ausländerbehörde. I couldn't believe how easy it was.

I don't know about work options. It depends where you go, but the spouse visa-type paperwork in Germany is way easier than the UK.

The CEO of Deutsche Bank is a Brit as are several others at boardroom level. Will they be marched out on 24th June? (No). In terms of jobs in Germany, I wouldn't worry whichever way the vote goes. Plenty of non-EU people work in Germany.
