|
|
Hi guys, I've been researching extensively the past few weeks on my options on where I can teach without a degree. From what i've gathered it seems that LA is a good choice, is there any specific country that wont allow this?
Im a uk citizen with a 120 hour TEFL and a HND in sports coaching.
If you know any sites that would help me further research and Any advice/opions would be greatly appreciated. |

You could teach in Mexico and obtain a work visa with the TEFL. That said, there are very few employers here that will a) hire you for any meaningful work and b) sponsor you for a work visa to do said work. |

It's the same in Ecuador. Theoretically, you can work without a degree, in practice it's got a lot harder to find anywhere willing/able to sponsor a visa for you. You can't get your own professional visa. You could get an investment visa if you can afford to tie $25,000 up as the bond. You could also get a retirement visa and still work, if you also have a pension.
Or, you could just come for 6 months on a 12-IX, but that's not renewable. |

Thanks for the swift replies.
So Guy Courchesne, you're saying it would be quite hard to find work in Mexico?
I'm keen on heading over to LA to look for work but I wouldnt want to head over to find out I cant work there. Do you know if employers in other countries would be willing to hire me?
Thats good to hear about Ecuador. |

Oh you can find plenty of work...just not very good work. Count out primary, secondary, or tertiary schools as the degree is a must. Language institutes abound but it's always difficult to get a work visa sponsorship out of them. |

That's going to be generally true of most of Latin America, but wait for others to comment from specific countries.
I tend to work with primary and secondary schools so my comments reflect work in that field, where the standards are higher, bear in mind. |

It's pretty much the same in Ecuador. There aren't many places that can sponsor a temporary visa, which is what you would need without a degree. The ones that can, generally want a degree regardless of whether it is a visa requirement. It's not set in stone, if you are in the right place at the right time, you might get lucky, but it's not something you can plan on happening. |

Don't bother much; this is probably yet another visage of our omnipresent medusa (not going anywhere and prone to pursuing reputable posters via pms). |

I was going to say the same as Guy--no problem finding a job, but finding a job worth having might be an issue. |

Same in Peru. Just don't count on a work visa or good job. |

Thanks! I rarely come to Dave's anymore. I've just got a lot on my plate both personally and professionally. |
