Does anyone have experience publishing?
In Korea, lots of teachers were or trying to publish various materials.
Has anyone here been successful in publishing anything for class or work? |

Depends on what and where you mean.
When you say 'publish' do you mean journal articles, books, teaching materials? |

In general it is not necessary for us to publish. As I see it, our role is to provide our Chinese students a chance to practice oral English. They have learned English for many years in school, but only reading and writing. They have high grammar knowledge. However, they seldom have the chance to practice their speaking and listening. Therefore, as native speakers we can give them opportunities to practice these skills.
For other skills, they can learn from Chinese teachers who know how to explain difficult concepts in Chinese. And the teachers have expertise in their content areas. It is really not our role to produce written materials. I think we should focus on teaching oral English. |

30 piles of stapled printouts for class?
Or pdfs for class?
Or a website for class?
Or a website for the world?
Or an article in the school newsletter?
Or an article in a well known journal?
Or a book we were paid to write?
Or a book we paid to print?
Or X copies sold of a book we wrote?
Or X subscriptions to our website?
Or...? |

Yeah, "publish" is too vague. Publish where? |

If you have a book worth publishing here it'll be re-copied (without your consent) and sold, giving you sweet nothing on the sale of those copies.
I once worked at a language school that had their 'own' materials. I found the same course books available in the largest book store in the same city. School management were less than impressed with the news that someone was making money selling their books. A year later and I'm in another city far from the first and the same books were available in the largest bookstore there too.

Yes I publish teaching materials and sell them via a website.
The prices cover (almost) the artwork, web hosting and payment processing (e-commerce) costs. |
