Duterte won in a landslide, and his Presidency for the next 6 years will be somewhat like Ferdinand Marcos's reign during the 70s, until 1981. Hardline and "take no prisoners" approach to fighting crime, and lawlessness. Also, a 10pm - 5am curfew for minors will be hard on some families who have their children help them sell stuff on the streets.
This will be an 'interesting' time for the Philippines, but he does not seem like the brightest of candidates - but who needs an intellectual, when you need to fight rampart poverty, corruption, crime and other aspects of life in this country, the Philippines, which has always had potential to become a major player in Asia, but has never seen the wealth trickle down to the less fortunate members of society in the Philippines, who constitute the majority.
The Philippines had a decent President in Noy Noy Aquino, but perhaps he was 'too nice' and in the grand scheme of things, nothing much has changed in the Philippines over the years. The same minority of the population continue to run the show in the Philippines, and the 'bit players' (majority of the population) continue to live in less than optimum wealth, but to their credit, the Filipinos are the most resilient and cheerful people on planet earth, so nothing really fazes them.
