Hello,
I am moving to Ankara to join my fiance. I am currently looking for positions teaching English there, perferably to adults. I recently had an interview with Bilkent University, which sounded good at first, but then when I got on here, everything I see is so negative, that I'm really afraid to accept the job if they offer it to me.
(That said, I really need a work permit and visa becasue all I have is a 90 day travel visa with multiple entries. We aren't planning to get married until next summer, but I guess if we must, we will get married sooner so that I can stay legally.)

Has anyone worked in Ankara, anywhere? If so, please contact me!

p.s. I've noticed in many threads someone invariably says something along the lines of, "don't waste your time in Ankara, go somewhere else,"- please don't advise that- I can't- my fiance's job and apartment is in Ankara- so I'm stuck.

Rolling Eyes Very Happy

To be fair, Bilkent is one of the better universities in Turkey, so that's good.

Be aware that various governments have advised their citizens not to travel to Istanbul and Ankara due to the terrorist threat. There is also the political and probable economic turmoil to consider.

I've always found Ankara underwhelming...

I am aware of the various govt. warnings. I am registered with my embassy to receive updates. I appreciate the concern.

I've been to Ankara before, I know what it's like- it is underwhelming, especially compared to Istanbul and the Southwestern coastal cities! I'm not moving there for ambiance or entertainment- I'm getting married and that's where he lives, for better or worse, right?

I also know that it's a prestigious university, so that's definitely appealing. I would very much like for someone who knows more about the English teaching jobs at Bilkent, or anywhere in the area, to share their experience.
