The TRA (Telecommunications Authority) requires a license to usw VoIP, which includes Skype. Unless you have such a license, you are breaking the law.
I did apply for a license but it was denied.
At work, Skype, a lot of YouTube and Websites were banned.
It's like saying "I didn't know I needed a license for driving a car. I shouldn't go to jail for 10days. Nobody told me it's against the law.". If you have Co-workers or neighbours with an axe to grind (because of cooking smell at lunchtime during Ramadhan) and the police shows up, a lame excuse won't wash.

Does anyone know of any teacher having an issue when they used their VPN? There haven't been any reports here of the law being enforced against a teacher.

If there is, I've never heard of it and, like I said earlier, the chances of being caught and prosecuted because of using Skype in Oman are so small that they don't even bear thinking about it. Also, lets be honest, this is not the sort of infringement that the police are going to see as a high priority. Oman isn't North Korea. If you are a little worried about it, then just be discrete and, as I did, use your VPN and/or Skype at home. |

Nizwa Apartments is being recommended by a 3rd party company.
a little out the way, but favorable reviews
I have read so many stories about slow internet.
Will it better to just get my own apartment in Nizwa?
If so, will transportation and proper internet be an issue? |
