Hi all.

Does anyone know of any schools (reputable preferably!), or cities that are in less urbanised areas or regions!?

I know that Japan is a highly urbanised country and the majority of schools are where demand for English is highest (i.e the cities). I want to teach in this region of Asia but don't fancy living in a huuuuuuuge place, and generally prefer more rural areas...

Does the above even exist!!?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

The JET Programme may place ALTs in the inaka (the countryside...BFE).

Don't worry, there is plenty of country-side. The whole country is not the set for some neon-lit, near-future, sci-fi, suspense-thriller. And yeah, take a look into the JET program. A long and difficult application process, but is still the best pay and benefits you can find for entry level work. I understand they often place people "out in the inaka" these days.

I know you said reputable but the chain eikaiwa schools tend to have branches in smaller cities/bigger towns, not just the huge cities. So there's always the option of getting a job with one of them and then networking within that area.

"MY English School" specializes in non-urban ALT placements and also offers salaries significantly above the salaries so often mentioned here on this forum:

http://www.teachatmy.com/

They are a good employer that values people making long-term commitments to the organization, to include merit pay raises. That said, they don't usually hire TESOL newbies or people with no experience in Japan.

James English School is an eikaiwa chain with schools throughout the less urbanized northern region of Japan:

Not too sure of the requirements or working conditions, but again I do believe they pay more than 250,000 per month.

Keep in mind as well that once you get outside of Tokyo (and Kyoto, Osaka, Nagoya, etc.) things get a LOT cheaper.
