|
|
Hi,
Does anyone know if they're hiring at SQU for next year? I don't see them listed for the TALCON Conference next month.
I'm an American woman, just turned 55, currently in Saudi (2.5 yrs), but would like to go to Oman next year, if possible. I have an MA TESOL and 25 yrs experience, including in a number of countries.
Is SQU a possibility for next year?
Thank you in advance for any insights or ideas.

So far they're listed as attending TESOL Int'l in the US next month. |

They have a job posting on the Tesol site. I think they prefer to interview in person at conferences but correct me if I'm wrong. |

Yes, they do prefer in person interviews.
And since it is the top job in Oman as far as pay and benefits, it is very competitive.

And based on what I've heard about this location, this could be a good move for your demographic. Not sure if they still require attendance at the job fair, but since you're already in Saudi, you should try to get there. One negative though is that Oman will kick you out at 60. But it could be fun, so get to the fair if you can and good luck. |

Thank you for the feedback.
Does anyone know if they'll be at TESOL Arabia next month? The US Conference is too far. I'd be happy to go to Dubai if I knew they'd be there; otherwise, I'd rather not... and at the moment, I don't see them listed.
On the other hand, would it be possible to meet them in Oman? I'd be happy to go to Oman for an interview, if possible? However, I don't see anyway to get in touch with them(?)
Any ideas?
Yes, I've heard very good things about SQU and Oman, so I thought it'd be interesting for a bit.

There are no openings on the website, but you could send an application anyway. In your cover letter you could explain that you are unable to attend TESOL in the US, but would be available to fly to Oman for an interview. (right now it looks like they will not be in Dubai)
Or... you could try calling the department... now known as the Centre of Preparatory Studies or some such. (info is on the website) And ask them how to proceed.
Or... you could take a nice holiday in Oman and drop off your application in person. I would try to do so before they head to TESOL.

I went through the faculty list and there are still people there who are over 60. Like all rules in the Gulf... it depends.

Does it list their birthdates or something? Or do they just look over 60? |

I know them personally... and worked with them back in the late '80s. They are still there...

The convention is this coming weekend in Dubai.
I hope you can organize a visit with this short notice.

Here's an oddity. I just looked at the job listing on their convention page... and there is exactly one employer interviewing for the UAE. And that is the British Council.
Very few jobs at all actually...

Thanks! |
