Good day.
With the demise of Foundation Programs around the corner, I was wondering how many teachers could expect to be transferred to academic programs at their current institutions. For example, ZU is advertising positions in a couple of departments, so I wonder if those of you currently teaching at an FP anywhere in the country see yourselves being given priority for that type of jobs.

They are likely viable candidates if their qualifications fully meet the requirements for those positions. Of course, they'd have to apply like everyone else. It's up to the university whether to give priority to current qualified faculty. |

Is this happening? When? Heard, and seen things but never really any confirmation. |

Yes, they will wrap it up in pretty paper and call it "Academic Bridge" or "English Support" or "Transitional Year" or whatever they want to call it. They will stamp a student with an EMSAT score and claim that the student is equivalent to a Band 5 in IELTS and in undergraduate studies. The reality is that many students will not be capable of doing university level work, and the professors will dumb down their classes to accommodate these students. Some very qualified students will survive this farce and learn how to go beyond the expectations, and many students will collect their piece of paper and go off to their job.
It's a very simplistic model and may not be stated explicitly or it may be heralded with blaring trumpets. Consider it evolution for many universities. However, the more things change, the more they stay the same. |

And how does this differs from how it has been since the mid-80s? Sounds like same old same old to me... LOL
I suspect that the foundations English will be moved out of the college/universities and into ADVETI-like language schools hiring mostly non-Western teachers at bargain basement prices... large classes... long hours... low pay... few benefits...

When these university foundation programmes end within the next 18 months, won't there be a couple of hundred teachers suddenly put out of work?
I wonder where they will all end up. Will they have to flee to the dreaded Saudi and get a job there? |

Get to know the EMSat. This will be the new gold standard which these language schools will be required to teach towards. The International High Schools will have their act together and the students will walk out with an internationally accepted qualification: IELTS or TOEFL. |

Word on the street is that lots of internal candidates are not really being moved into the non-ABP roles within ZU. Something about perceptions of them being damaged goods... |
