Hello everyone,
I hope you guys aren't sick of threads such as this, but I was hoping to get some suggestions as to my next move. A little bit about myself
Bachelor's and Master's not in strictly relevant fields (The MA is in philosophy of language, and truth be told I found myself to be occasionally more knowledgeable than people I have met with BA in linguistics, but the paper doesn't say that and so I guess I can't count it)
CELTA
About 4.5 years teaching adults, the last 10 months of which I was Senior teacher/ co-center manager.
I am currently in China, in a city that doesn't really do it for me. The pollution has also finally become a little too much for me. I think I want to get away from China.
My preferences are for a large international city, but hopefully one that won't turn into too much of a pay cut. I recognize that leaving China will mean a pay cut no matter what, but this is the thing I am hoping to minimize as much as possible.
Any thoughts? All suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

We have some large international cities on the European continent, but the western countries are out if you have a non-EU citizen passport, and any of them would mean a pretty significant pay cut from China.

The jobs are in China and finding one in a European city could be difficult. The geographical spread of jobs changes over time. I spent a large part of my early teaching career in post-colonial Africa. That is History now. The same trend is now taking place in the Middle East.

Europe as a region for EFL is not realistic unless you work for starvation wages in Poland.

Look into Morocco, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.

Large international cities in other countries might be too polluted for you as well. Since China is huge, maybe you should look into cities that have decent air quality.

Hong Kong, Oman, UAE, and perhaps somewhere like Morocco working at a decent university.

The UAE has few teaching opportunities unless the OP has a k-12 teaching license/certification.

If you have a good job, hold onto it. You don't have much experience and good jobs are hard to come by these days.

Ya, I understand the need to get out of China, for sure!

You could try Germany, especially in the south. My (American) friend from UNI moved there a few years ago and loves it and is still there to this day. She does free lance English teaching and says there is a decent market for free lance work (even the visa is not hard to get she told me).

I trained under two young women at UNI who had done gap years in both Czech Republic and Spain in 2008 teaching English. Look at those two countries as well as they had both gotten their starts in those countries.

That was nine years ago. Besides, wouldn't this be a major drop in salary given the OP's 4+ years of experience?

+1 for Hong Kong. Not sure if it's too 'China' for the OP though.

Taiwan has better air quality than the mainland.

And op if you know some Chinese you would not be starting from scratch language wise.
