Hello!
Does anyone know about how long it takes to process a work permit for Americans?
I've read anywhere from 1.5 to 3 months. Do you know if that's accurate?

You want to hope it's less than 90 days, as your legal status in Poland lasts maximum that long.
Guys, it's impossible to pinpoint how long the process will take in any given case, but traditionally it's been considered ok to work once the paperwork has been filed, while the papers are being processed. Just line up some some help from your new school to organize the papers and file as quickly as possible after arrival to the country.
And, in case you haven't noticed, dragonpiwo has only two strings on his forum guitar  He's correct that you won't get rich (or even middle-class) as an EFL teacher in Poland, but there are some upsides so long as you don't require luxuries. |

I heard that immigration is legally required to give you a temp visa if they take longer than 90 days to process your paperwork. Good luck getting them to actually DO that, though...
As for TEFL-ing income, you can achieve a middle-class existence by Polish standards. Not that that's particularly impressive, but you can certainly live comfortably. Now when you go back to your home country and want to buy a house or flat, get ready for a rude awakening. |
