After screwing up my previous application for this course in 2012/2013, I just received the offer of a place on the MA course "Adult Learning & Global Change".

This is a 2-year, online MA course that is offered by Linkoping University, Sweden.

The course link is here:

https://liu.se/en/education/program/l7mlg

It is not an M.Ed, but it should be an interesting course to study. Since I'm British, there are absolutely no tuition fees to pay Smile

What on earth is that course and why would anyone want to study it?

Er, perhaps if you click on the link, you can read about the course.

In a nutshell, it is about learning and teaching in developing countries, or countries undergoing change, (such as in Myanmar, where I teach).

As to why would anyone want to study it, do you only have to do things that have an immediate or direct or relevant effect on your life?

Years ago, I studied for a Thai MA at Chulongkorn University. I studied 'for fun', for academic interest.

I think you need to get out more Smile

In my experience it's usually the eternal student types who need to 'get out more'.

I remember being alerted to this 'loophole' (for lack of a better word a few years ago). Enjoy the course.

I don't think that 'loophole' is the correct word to use. The Scandanavian countries all (as policy), offer tuition-free graduate and post-graduate courses to EU citizens, whether the course be online or on campus.

Is that a 'loophole'?

Seriously, there has to be more to this story. What you are saying is that, if I were an EU citizen, say, from France or Germany, all I would need to do is just go and apply to a university in Sweden, Denmark, etc. and they would admit me to a PhD or M.A. program without paying fees?

What's the catch? That sounds too good to be true.

They (Scandinavian countries) have very pro-education societies that value young educated masses of people, unlike the US. I have been to all the Scandinavian countries, it was very clear to me and easy to see that people see the value in their tax dollars going towards education as making sure your population is educated benefits society as a whole. They understand this. Maybe by extending this to EU citizens they can help the continent as a whole to be competitive on the global scene vs other regions of the world. Maybe they figure it could help to bring an influx of talent from other EU nations. Regardless, educating people is a worth while investment, I really do not see the need for any ¨catch.¨

A Net search with American attend university free pulls up many links on options for Americans.

As CTravel32 pointed out, there is no catch Smile It is the policy of the Scandanavian countries not to charge tuition fees to EU citizens, (whether or not they reside in the EU).

I'm sure there are on-campus M.Ed or B.ED degree courses available, but I didn't investigate these because I am based in south-east Asia and needed a 100% online course.

I did a lot of Googling about online postgrad courses from universities in Sweden, Finland, Norway etc, but wasn't able to find any M.Ed or MA ed online courses.

But if you want to study an online MA in Irish Gaelic, then you can do this for zero Euro tuition fees Smile
