Hi,

I am interviewing for Hong Kong Polytechnic University next week and would really like to know more about their English Language Centre. The last post on the school was 5 years ago, so I am hoping to get some more current info.

Basically:

1) What is the pay like? Does that include a housing allowance?

2) Is it a good place to work at? (No in-fighting, turf-wars, one-upping, micro-managing, unreasonable amount of unpaid work, and the like.)

3) How many hours a week do they expect teachers to be in class? What is the grading workload? Testing/Rating?

4) What are the student levels? Attitudes? Classroom behaviors?

5) How much support do teachers get for professional development (workshop/seminar/conference funding, PhD. funding, etc.)?

Anything would be very, very helpful and much, much appreciated!

Don't know about that particular institute but a friend worked in Hong Kong at a similar place and said that the workload was heavy with lots of prep, marking and admin work. Would be interested to hear more from others on what they think about the colleges and universities in Hong Kong.
