For teachers new to China the National Day holiday will be their first experience of class rescheduling including cancellations, deferments and makeup classes.
Would be good to hear particularly of the amount of advance notice given and the clarity of the workaround instructions. |

No real rescheduling for me, just no classes on the Friday before and a week of holiday. |

Always knew Saturday was going to be a make up day, we followed a Friday schedule for Saturday which meant no teaching for me but I had to go in and desk warm |

No make ups, I think most students are preparing for SAT exams. I have been lucky in my time in China and have never had to do weekend make up stuff. I am not opposed to it necessarily, but it seems a bit silly to me. Why not just add time for holidays to the end of the term? I would do weekend stuff if asked, but I feel no one would get anything from it. Students are not interested in it, like throwing away class time for the sake of having class. |

I think the rationale is that for schools to have their degrees recognised, they have to be open for instruction for a minimum number of days per semester.
For Chinese New Year few students travel home because they literally have just arrived. For later holidays the week blocks and missed classes to be made up on the weekends before or after the break are keenly awaited.
A tip. If you are aware of a holiday coming up and haven't been told of the arrangements, have a quiet word to your most clued up class monitor. They usually have it sussed for the simple reason they need to book travel. |

No problems with me. I work every other Saturday anyway.
Any make up classes will be on the 14th which I would have worked anyway. |
