| Hmmm. I hoped the main message of the thread was that 'academics are sexy,' rather that US academics are impoverished. This is too bad, but I fear that in the current US climate, academics are unlikely to be held in the high esteem they deserve for some time to come. Very grateful that I am elsewhere-though the world generally seems pretty unstable these days and our security anywhere is uncertain. |

| Maybe NYC doesn't need so many anthropology profs. Supply and demand also applies to them. And universities are trying to turn a profit. Huh. |
