Not American School of Kuwait, but Kuwait American School. It's a struggling school with less than 200 students. Enrollment began to fall during the Iraq war when a very unqualified principal took over. Many parents have withdrawn their children because of conflicts with this principal. And the Kuwaiti owner of the school appears to be in financial trouble because the school is losing money. She has an arrangement with the bank to release salaries only on the very last day of the month. When teachers ask for advance payments because of school holidays such as Spring Break, the response is, "The owner has loans with the bank and they won't release the money". That's not very assuring for an expat teacher. On top of all that, the inexperienced principal was responsible for firing around 13 teachers this school year. Be afraid of this school. Be very afraid. |
